Water-Process / Mechanical Engineer – Pumps & Water Treatment

About the Role

CooperBuild is seeking an experienced Water-Process / Mechanical Engineer for an onsite project in Washington, DC.

This position is focused on pumps, piping, hydraulics, water circulation, filtration, drainage, and water-treatment systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Select, size, evaluate, and troubleshoot pumps and pumping systems
  • Review and support pump operation and maintenance requirements
  • Analyze piping, valves, flow, pressure, head loss, and hydraulic performance
  • Perform or review hydraulic calculations and modeling
  • Work with pool circulation, filtration, and water-transfer systems
  • Review drainage, sump, and associated pumping systems
  • Support ozonation, chemical-feed, disinfection, and water-treatment equipment
  • Troubleshoot pumps, valves, filters, piping, controls, and other mechanical-room equipment
  • Support equipment startup, testing, and commissioning
  • Coordinate instrumentation, pump controls, VFDs, PLC/BAS/SCADA, and related control systems
  • Produce and review process-flow diagrams (PFDs), mechanical/piping drawings, equipment documentation, and as-built hydraulic documentation
  • Coordinate with field personnel, contractors, vendors, and project management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience with pumps, piping, valves, filtration, and hydraulic systems
  • Experience with water-treatment or recirculating-water systems
  • Experience with pools, fountains, reservoirs, pump houses, water/wastewater facilities, or similar systems is highly desirable
  • Understanding of pump curves, flow rates, pressure/head calculations, pipe sizing, and system hydraulics
  • Experience with chemical-feed, disinfection, ozonation, filtration, or comparable treatment processes preferred
  • Mechanical-room troubleshooting and commissioning experience
  • Ability to read and produce PFDs, piping/mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, and as-built documentation
  • Strong field troubleshooting and technical communication skills
  • Must be able to work onsite in Washington, DC

Candidates We Are Looking For

Strong candidates may come from backgrounds such as water/wastewater treatment, pump systems, hydraulic engineering, pool/fountain systems, industrial water processes, process mechanical engineering, or pump-house operations.

Candidates whose experience is primarily HVAC, air conditioning, ventilation, ductwork, AHUs, or conventional building mechanical design should have substantial additional experience with pumps, piping, hydraulics, filtration, or water-treatment systems to be considered.
